Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
